In nowadays, identifying the genetic cause of  a cancer patient’s disease enables not only the optimal care of the patient itself by assessing specifically the risk of developing other cancers, but also of their families by enabling cancer prevention among unaffected family members. Therefore, the Clinical activity in the Laboratory of Experimental Surgery is orientated on the provision of genetic counseling services and genetic testing for genes predisposing to cancer development to all patients hospitalized in the A’ Department of Propaedeutic Surgery or visiting the Outpatient Service of Breast Unit.

Genetic testing is always carried out following risk assessment, genetic counseling, and an informed consent given in writing.  The total cost of the genetic testing is fully covered by the person in concern (For more information please contact us).
